Meet Mario Flanagan, the General Manager at Andaz London. After moving to London from South Africa 12 years ago, he finds importance in working for a brand such as Andaz London that encourages self-expression as this allows him to embrace his culture. He feels fortunate to live in a city with amazing sights and experiences, some of which he finds comfort in, like sports, cycling, restoring classic cars, driving and meeting new people.
As the first Andaz hotel to open, he mentions that the authenticity of the brand embraces East London culture and brings the city into the hotel. He explains, “living in such a creative city can inspire others to be expressive – whether you are a staff member or a customer or a guest coming to the hotel”. Additionally, he suggests that in every part of the hotel, visitors are exposed to the different stories each outlet and space has to offer.
On brand with the Andaz concept, he describes the hotel as ‘boundless’ as it breaks the norm. “The Andaz brand inspires [others] to be themselves, to try new things, and we dare you to be different.”
This hidden gem offers guests an escape from the hustle and bustle of the outside world: a place from which to work or play accompanied by an artisan coffee or a specially crafted signature cocktail. The Café Bar can be enjoyed across three distinct rooms,
The Front Room, a garden-influenced space and the first room guests experience at Rake’s; The Parlour, a sophisticated yet casual lounge area; and The Orgy Room, the Rake’s private dining room.
